The Butts County Tax Commissioner is an elected official who answers directly to the voters of Butts County and to the Georgia Department of Revenue. This Office is charged with the responsibility of collecting taxes on properties within Butts County,  as well as collecting motor vehicle taxes and selling tags on behalf of the State of Georgia. This office is not responsible for assessments on property, which is a legally separate function of the Board of Assessors. 

Nancy J. Washington is the current Tax Commissioner of Butts County. She has been working for Butts County since 1984, beginning as an employee of the Office and working her way up to Chief Deputy Commissioner. She assumed the office of Tax Commissioner upon the retirement of her predecessor and has since won election several times.
