Solid Waste Supervisor

The Butts County Public Works Department is seeking applicants for a Solid Waste Supervisor.

This position is responsible for overseeing operations at all county solid waste collection sites, supervising site attendants, coordinating waste hauling and disposal schedules, ensuring compliance with state and local environmental regulations.

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Supervising and scheduling solid waste site attendants and other assigned staff
• Monitoring and ensuring proper handling, collection, and disposal of all household and bulk waste materials
• Inspecting all county solid waste sites regularly for cleanliness, safety, and compliance with county policies
• Coordinating hauling schedules and container exchanges with contracted waste haulers
• Track site volumes, equipment usage, and operational needs to support budgeting and planning
• Enforcing solid waste regulations and assist the public in proper disposal procedures
• Maintaining accurate records, including waste tonnage, site maintenance logs, and incident reports
• Overseeing maintenance and minor repairs of compactors, containers, and site infrastructure
• Recommending operational improvements, staffing adjustments, and equipment upgrades
• Responding to complaints, inquiries, and concerns from citizens in a professional and timely manner
• Work collaboratively with other divisions of Public Works and county departments

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED required
• Associate degree or technical certification preferred
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in solid waste operations, public works, or related field
• One (1) year of supervisory or leadership experience is preferred
• Valid Georgia driver’s license (CDL preferred or ability to obtain within 6 months)
• Working knowledge of state and federal environmental and waste handling regulations
• Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, and IWORQ or similar systems)
• Ability to operate light equipment and perform site inspections
