Solid Waste Site Attendant

This position is responsible for collecting and sorting disposed waste and recyclables.

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Collects allowable solid waste and recyclables at the center.
• Compacts and sorts disposed items in correct containers.
• Verifies customers are residents of Butts County.
• Responds to customer inquiries.
• Assists maintenance workers in unloading trucks.
• Secures site and removes safety hazards.
• Cleans and maintains the site.
• Performs related duties

Knowledge Required:

• Knowledge of solid waste disposal methods and practices.
• Knowledge of waste recycling systems.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety requirements.
• Skill in operating required light equipment.
• Skill in oral and written communications.
• Skill in interpersonal relations.

Physical Demands:

• The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, stooping, bending, or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light objects and occasionally lifts heavy objects, and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
• The work is typically performed on site. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, the outdoors and occasionally inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent, or a combination of education, experience and skills that meet the prerequisites of the position.
• No experience requirements.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
