Butts County’s Chief Financial Officer will be stepping down from her post after nearly five years on the job. Chiquita Barkley, who has served as Butts County’s Controller since mid-2013, gave her notice to Chairman Robert Henderson and Vice Chairman Joe Brown on January 3, 2018, citing a desire to pursue new opportunities.

In a statement released to County employees and elected officials yesterday, Barkley stated “It is with a heavy heart that I say farewell to each of you. My decision to leave Butts County after nearly 5 years of service has not come easily. I love this job, the great team I work with in my day-to day, and the citizens I have gotten to know over the years. I am honored to call you all ‘friend’!”

Barkley, the third person to hold the position since it was created fifteen years ago, made it her focus to work on areas of financial accountability. She also managed a complicated and intricate budget process each year and oversaw the County SPLOST programs and capital improvement funding program.

Barkley’s last day with Butts County will be on Friday, January 12th.
