Certain positions or jobs in public safety requiring specific certification are not advertised because we accept applications for these positions on a year round basis. The County has a policy of continuous open recruitment and accepts applications for these positions at all times. When jobs come open in these categories, they are filled from the applications that are current (within 6 months) and on file. Click on the “Continuous Open Recruitment” tab on the left side of this page to view continuous positions. Some jobs may require a resume and cover letter in addition to the application; check the recruitment information provided to be sure.
Other positions that come open may be posted internally, advertised on the County web site in the open job posting area and/or in the Jackson Progress-Argus, the legal organ of Butts County. Most supervisory positions and all higher management positions require an interview board process. In this case, applications are reviewed and the most qualified candidates are forwarded to an interview board. The interview board will meet with the applicants and discuss the position in a question-answer format. Upon conclusion of the interview board, the final candidates will be forwarded to the person(s) responsible for making the final selection. If you have an application on file for a position and have been through an interview board process, please note that a decision will not be made immediately following the board but could be as long as two weeks after the board. In most cases, if you are a finalist, you will be interviewed by the appointing authority at least one time before he or she makes their decision. Applications are available at the Board of Commissioner’s Office during regular business hours. We do not mail applications. We reserve the right to hire and/or promote from within if suitable applicants are currently working in our system.
For full-time positions, we offer Health Insurance (HMO Open Access) with an employee co-pay, Life Insurance, Paid Leave and Paid Holidays. Spouse and/or dependent insurance coverage is available as well. Opportunities for advancement exist within all departments. If you have any questions about an open position or a position you have applied for, you should only contact the department manager that oversees that department. Administrative staff of the Commissioners Office are not authorized to discuss specific information about working hours, job expectations, salary range or anticipated hiring dates with applicants. A directory of departments and managers can be obtained by clicking the appropriate tab at the top of this page.
