Jackson, GA-The Joint Development Authority of Butts County and Spalding County today announced that Dollar General, America’s largest small-box discount retailer, is projected to create a capital investment of $85 million to build a one million square foot distribution center which will be a catalyst for economic development in the region, creating more than 500 permanent jobs and thousands more temporary jobs necessary for the construction of the facility. Dollar General, still finalizing its due diligence, should begin construction later this year.

“We appreciate the collaboration among everyone who has helped bring Dollar General to Butts and Spalding Counties. We’re glad to welcome a wonderful company and look forward to helping them be successful in our community,” said Keith Douglas, Chairman, Butts County Board of Commissioners.

This project is uniquely situated on the Butts and Spalding county line. Laura Hale Sistrunk (Butts County) and David Luckie (Spalding County) worked on this project on behalf of the communities.

“Due to the substantial number of jobs being created, this project will have a meaningful impact on our area in terms of new employment opportunities. The cooperation of our Spalding County leadership and the Butts County Commissioners and their Development Authority, as well as the expertise of the Georgia Department of Economic Development have been key elements to the success of this project” said Chuck Copeland, Chair of the Griffin-Spalding Development Authority.
