The Board of Commissioners appoints the County Manager, who is responsible for the General Administration of the County Government. As the County’s Chief Administrative Officer and Chief of Staff to the Board, the County Manager is responsible for the overall management and administration of the county government, working under the direction and guidance of the Board of County Commissioners, the elected legislative body of the County government. The Administrator also provides administrative and managerial support expertise to the Board of Commissioners.

Brad Johnson was appointed County Manager on November 16, 2020 with an effective date of January 1, 2021; prior to his appointment, he had served as the Assistant County Manager of Henry County for nearly four years. His total tenure with Henry County spanned over 32 years, 28 of which were served in the Henry County Fire Department, where he rose through the ranks to the position of Deputy Fire Chief.

Mr. Johnson also served a number of years concurrently with the Butts County Fire Department as a Firefighter, Paramedic, Assistant Fire Chief and Fire Chief. During his time with the Fire Department, he helped transition the department from a rural, mostly-volunteer department into a full time, combined Fire & EMS agency, which is currently the second largest department in the Butts County government.

A graduate of Jackson High School, Mr. Johnson additionally holds an Associates of Applied Science degree from West Georgia Technical College and a Bachelor of Science in Fire Services Administration from Waldorf College. He also holds numerous certifications in public safety, as well as the Certified County Official designation from the University of Georgia. In his previous position, he assisted in the management of a county government with over 1700 employees and a $160m budget. He will be the 9th person to hold the Office of Butts County Manager since its inception in 1991.

Mr. Johnson is a lifelong resident of Butts County and he resides in Jackson with his wife Lisa. They have two adult sons, Kevin and Nicholas, and one grandchild.
