Animal Services Director
Butts County is seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to serve as Animal Services Director. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on animal welfare and public safety in our community. The Director will provide leadership and vision for the County’s Animal Control Services, ensuring the humane treatment of animals, enforcing animal-related laws, and promoting responsible pet ownership.
The Animal Control Services is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and administration of the County’s Animal Control Services. This position oversees field enforcement, shelter operations, community outreach, and administrative functions. The Director ensures compliance with all applicable local and state regulations and works collaboratively with law enforcement, veterinarians, nonprofit organizations, and the general public to maintain a safe and compassionate community for both people and animals.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Plans, directs, and manages all aspects of the Animal Control Department, including enforcement of animal control laws and ordinances
- Supervises and evaluates departmental staff, oversees animal intake and shelter operations, and ensures that animals are handled and housed humanely
- Prepares and manages the departmental budget, develops and implements operational policies and emergency response plans, and represents the County in community outreach and media relations regarding animal services issues
Ideal candidates will have a bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least five (5) years of progressive experience in animal control, shelter management, or a related area. However, a combination of education, training, and relevant experience that provides the required knowledge and skills will also be considered.
