Animal Services Officer
The Butts County Board of Commissioners is seeking a qualified, compassionate, and dependable individual to serve as an Animal Services Officer. This position plays a vital role in protecting both animals and citizens by enforcing local and state animal control laws, responding to service calls, and ensuring the humane care and treatment of animals in Butts County.
The Animal Control Services is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and administration of the County’s Animal Control Services. This position oversees field enforcement, shelter operations, community outreach, and administrative functions. The Director ensures compliance with all applicable local and state regulations and works collaboratively with law enforcement, veterinarians, nonprofit organizations, and the general public to maintain a safe and compassionate community for both people and animals.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Responding to animal-related service calls and emergencies
- Investigate complaints and enforce animal control laws and ordinances
- Capture and transport stray or injured animals safely and humanely
- Assist with shelter operations, including feeding, cleaning, and caring for animals
- Educate the public on responsible pet ownership and community safety
- This is a full-time position that will include work on weekends and holidays on rotation.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Valid Georgia driver’s license
- The ability to handle animals safely and work independently
- Experience in animal care, public safety, or a related field preferred
- A combination of education, training, and experience may be considered
