The Board of Commissioners proposes a reduced millage rate of 10.959 mils for 2023, a reduction of one mil of tax from the previous year’s millage rate of 11.959 mils. If passed at this rate, this will be the lowest millage rate Butts County’s government has levied since 1993. The proposed millage rate, if approved, will fund 34% of the total County budget, with the remaining 66% of funding coming from other sources such as sales tax, county-generated revenues, service fees, landfill tipping fees paid to the County and grant funding, among others. Not all properties will realize a tax increase; in fact, some properties may see a decrease in taxes, depending on current and prior valuations of property. It should be noted that this proposed millage rate only pertains to the County government of Butts County and does not include any other property tax levy such as the school tax, which is under the sole jurisdiction of the Butts County Board of Education.
