Position Available: Community Development Director
The Butts County Commissioner’s Office is seeking applicants for the position of Community Development Director. Under limited supervision, incumbent performs highly responsible work in the administration of the Community Development Department. The department provides a range of public services to the citizens of Butts County to include planning, zoning, business licensing, erosion, and sediment control operations.
The Community Development Director must have a working knowledge of all functions that relate to the operation of this department. The incumbent is directly involved in the current and long-range planning programs of the County as they relate to the development and implementation of land use and related zoning plans and policies. The incumbent oversees all operations of the department. Incumbent regularly participates in and provides input and guidance to the Zoning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals and County Commissioners as required and regularly interfaces with various County officials in the process of overseeing the operation of the department.
Incumbent assimilates technical information required for the job and applies this knowledge to the assigned functions of the position. Incumbent is also a source of information to all County departments, elected officials, Commissioners, and the public. The Community Development Director coordinates activities through the office of the County Manager and receives supervision and direction from the same or his/her designee.
Graduation from a college or university with a Bachelors’ Degree in Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Public administration, or closely related field. Experience in municipal, county, or regional planning and development; or in city/county management; or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. Managerial experience is required.
Understanding of ordinances, laws, and powers of local government.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Must be knowledgeable of Microsoft Office programs and a working knowledge of Geographic Information Systems is highly desired.
Willingness to attend evening meetings to meet the needs of the community development office.
Must be willing to take a drug test and allow a criminal background check.
