A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF BUTTS COUNTY SETTING QUALIFYING FEES FOR ELECTED OFFICES FOR THE 2020 ELECTION CYCLE; TO AUTHORIZE THE CHAIRMAN TO SIGN THE RESOLUTION ON BEHALF OF THE BOARD; TO AUTHORIZE THE CLERK OF BUTTS COUNTY TO ATTEST ALL DOCUMENTS; TO SET FORTH THE TERMS OF APPOINTMENTS; AND FOR OTHER RELATED AND LAWFUL PURPOSES.

WHEREAS, Butts County is a duly created and validly existing political subdivision of the State of Georgia under the Constitution and laws of the state of Georgia and governed by the Butts County Board of Commissioners, and;

WHEREAS, the Butts County Board of Commissioners, the governing body of the county is charged under Georgia Law with setting qualifying fees for all County and School District Elected Offices during the year of each election cycle, now, therefore, be it:

RESOLVED, the Commission does hereby declare that the foregoing preamble and whereas provisions set forth hereinabove constitute, and shall be considered to be, substantive provisions of this Resolution and are hereby incorporated by reference into this provision.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED the Commission does hereby adopt the following Qualifying Fees in accordance with State Law, to be set in the amount of 3% of the base salary for each elected office as defined in the official Salary Guide for Georgia Elected Officials for 2020 and delineated as shown below, except that in the event an elected office shall have no prescribed salary or compensation, the qualifying fee shall not exceed $10.00:

A. Sheriff $1,779.86 (Constitutional Officer)
B. Clerk of Superior Court $1,491.65 (Constitutional Officer)
C. Tax Commissioner $1,491.65 (Constitutional Officer)
D. Probate Judge $1,491.65 (Constitutional Officer)
E. Chief Magistrate $1,491.65 (Non-Constitutional Elected Official)
F. Coroner $729.36 (Non-Constitutional Elected Official)
G. Commissioner $270.00 (Non-Constitutional Elected Official)
H. School Board Member $144.00 (Non-Constitutional Elected Official)
I. County Surveyor $10.00 (Non-Constitutional Elected Official)

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all qualifying fees shall be remitted in full to the Butts County Board of Commissioners by the entity, agency or political party charged with qualifying candidates for elected offices within fourteen (14) calendar days of the closing of the qualification period for all County elected offices, said remittance to be used to defray taxpayer costs of conducting elections, and;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board authorizes the Clerk of Butts County to publish Qualifying Fees in the Legal Organ of Butts County and on approved digital media and information sources, following passage of this Resolution, and to communicate the content of this Resolution to the Director of Elections and Registration, and;

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the Board authorizes the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners to sign this Resolution on their behalf and authorizes the Clerk of Butts County to attest all signatures and transmit this document to the appropriate entities of Butts County.
