The Butts County Commissioner’s Office announces that the Courthouse will be closed on Friday, February 12th and Monday, February 15th for removal of the old boiler system. Because of the age of the 118 year old boiler and the asbestos components used in its construction, we want to be absolutely certain that citizen and employee safety is a top priority. The company that will be removing the system will employ full asbestos abatement measures and while they have guaranteed that there will be no danger of asbestos particles escaping, we are proceeding out of an abundance of caution by closing the courthouse on those two days.

Butts County Probate Judge Betsy Biles has announced that her office personnel will work out of the office of the Clerk of Superior Court across the street from the courthouse on those two days. The Probate Court will be able to handle most of the regular business of the Court while this is going on; however, they will not be able to issue any firearms licenses on either of those two days.

The office of the Juvenile Court, Juvenile Clerk and Public Defender’s Office will be closed both days and will reopen on Tuesday, February 16th. We apologize for any inconvenience as a result of this temporary but necessary  closure.
