Butts County, Georgia is seeking experienced candidates for the position of County Manager, with a start date of January 4, 2021.

Butts County, Georgia (population 24,936) is a diverse and growing county located 40 miles south of Atlanta and 35 miles north of Macon along the busiest interstate corridor in Georgia. We are a popular tourist destination, thanks to our many offerings for outdoor recreational activity and our increasing presence in the Georgia Film Industry. With multiple state parks, lakes and trails, a major river, and a first- class nature center, we are Georgia’s Outdoor Capital.

The selected applicant will oversee and administrate a broad range of programs associated with the day to day operations of the County government under the direction and supervision of the elected Board of Commissioners. Selected applicant functions as the Chief Administrative Officer of the County government. The County Manager has oversight responsibility for those involved in the preparation and presentation of the annual budget; manages the current $21.2m general budget and an approximately $23m SPLOST program; supervises, through the department heads of all County agencies not under the control of elected officers or appointed boards; prepares reports; serves on committees, boards or task forces as a representative of the County where applicable and ensures that the Commissioners have complete administration support of projects.

Applicants should have a minimum of ten years of direct local government experience (county or municipal) in a senior management position (Department Head or higher) and should possess upon applying a detailed knowledge of local government law, structure, the principles of public administration, knowledge of budget principles, finance, bonding, governmental accounting, and zoning laws.

The desired educational requirements would be a Masters’ degree in Public Policy, Public Administration or Community Development or Bachelors’ degree in Public Policy or Public Administration

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a high degree of integrity and responsiveness is required.  Candidates must have the ability to be bonded and have a valid State of Georgia motor vehicle license.
