Statement of the County Government on the Passing of Clair Jones

The Board of Commissioners and staff learned with great sadness this morning of the passing of Clair Jones, who has served for many years as City Clerk and City Administrator of Jenkinsburg. Clair was a consummate professional in her management of the day-to-day functions of Jenkinsburg City Hall and the business of the city. Her knowledge, expertise and her love for the City made her more than just an asset to the Mayor and Council, but a true ambassador for Jenkinsburg, and often the first face that many new residents and businesses would see when moving there.

We at Butts County, as well as our partner local governments, often leaned on Clair and her deep knowledge of procedures, policy, law and governance. She often knew the answer without having to look for it and she was happy to share what she learned and knew with others to help make their jobs easier. She believed fervently and advocated passionately that Jenkinsburg should and would always contribute to the betterment of the Butts County community and she worked tirelessly, even during times of failing health, to make that a reality. In her memory, we will join the cities of Jackson, Jenkinsburg and Flovilla in lowering our Administration Building flags to half staff through Sunday.

We will miss her and we know that our staff and citizens of Butts County will as well. Our thoughts, prayers and condolences are with the Mayor, Council, Employees and Citizens of Jenkinsburg and with the family of Clair Jones, a faithful servant of the public.
