Lee Beckman of the Georgia Ports Authority addressed members of the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia at their committee meetings in Butts County today. The authority deals directly with the ports in Georgia that receive goods shipped from overseas such as those in Savannah and Brunswick. He discussed how the port channels are being improved by widening and deepening them to accommodate the newer, larger ships that are now being used and how we are in a race with other locations such as the Panama Canal to improve those channels first. What comes in the ports in Georgia affects every business in Georgia and the more efficiently it can be shipped, the more profitable business can be.
