Code Enforcement Police Officer

The Butts County Board of Commissioners is currently seeking a qualified candidate to fill the full-time position of Code Enforcement Police Officer. This role will work closely with and support the Code Enforcement Supervisor in ensuring compliance with county ordinances and regulations.

We are looking for a dependable and motivated professional with strong interpersonal skills and a willingness to learn and grow within the position. The ideal candidate should possess excellent independent judgment, analytical skills, and keen attention to detail.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Respond to citizen complaints, inspect properties for code violations, gather and investigate evidence, issue notices of violation, and issue citations when necessary.
  • Conduct routine patrols in a county vehicle to proactively identify and assess ordinance violations.
  • Enforce regulations related to illegal signage, including removal of unauthorized signs.
  • Attend court hearings and perform re-inspections of properties as required.
  • Communicate and collaborate with various county departments, including the Sheriff’s Department and Public Works.
  • Conduct business license inspections as needed.
  • Monitor vacant properties and identify blighted structures requiring updates to code compliance or demolition.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records related to department operations.
  • Be available for emergency shift work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • POST-certified officer or former POST-certified officer.
