Emergency Management Specialist
Butts County is seeking applicants for the position of Emergency Management Specialist. The Emergency Management Specialist plays a critical role in the development, coordination and administering of emergency operations plans, coordinating logistics and resources pertaining to the planning, preparation, response and recovery from emergency and disaster situations.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Reporting to the Director and Deputy Director of Emergency Management, the Emergency Management Specialist implements plans for preparedness and response to major emergencies within the County.
- Coordinates Volunteer Resources and liaisons between the County and volunteer organizations.
- Facilitates and provides for Emergency Management training for volunteers, local responders, local government staff and others engaged in the functions of emergency management.
- Coordinates and ensures operational readiness of the Emergency Operations Center and opens the EOC as directed, ensuring that scaling and equipment is ready at all times.
- Handles a variety of paperwork and submissions of documentation to state and federal agencies, including grant submissions, operational reports, situation reports and related.
- Maintains, develops and reviews plans related to mitigation, hazards, preparedness, response, and recovery.
- Works with others to develop and delivery an effective communications strategy for public information, outreach, training and public awareness campaigns.
- Helps to coordinate the procurement and delivery of resources to emergency providers during emergency and disaster situations, including food, equipment, outside agency resources and related.
- Coordinates the implementation of response teams and assists with logistical needs.

Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Emergency Management or a closely related field preferred
- Minimum of 3 years in a related field of public safety.
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this job will be considered.
Specialized Training and/or Certification Requirements
- Valid Georgia Driver’s License
- Must possess or obtain Certified Emergency Manager within 12 months of employment
- Must posses or obtain IS-100, 200, 300, 400, 700 and 800 within 12 months of employment
- CERT Instructor within 12 months of employment
- Other certifications may be required to be obtained within specified timelines.
