Butts County Department of Leisure Services held its annual awards banquet on Monday, July 20th, which included the induction of four new members into the Parks and Recreation Hall of Fame. Known as the “Dr. Robert Van Deventer Community Service Award”, the award recognizes a body of contributions to the youth programs of the Leisure Services Department. This year’s inductees included Joe Sellers, Ricky Johnson, Jr., former Leisure Services Director Jim Herbert, who retired from the management of the program in 2013 and The World Famous Ricky’s Welding Shop. The award for Ricky’s Welding Shop was received by Brenda Johnson, wife of the late Ricky Johnson, Sr. who passed away in 2014 following a lifetime of contributing to the recreation programs of the department.
