Butts County will be accepting applications for the position of Equipment Operator until filled. The job description and duties can be found below: JOB SUMMARY This position is responsible operating a variety of equipment to assist in County road and infrastructure maintenance activities. MAJOR DUTIES Operates a variety of vehicles and equipment including patch trucks, brush cutter, asphalt sealers, and chain saws. Maintains right of way along County roads and highways. Clears, collects, and removes debris; clears rights of way. Conducts a variety of road maintenance and road building activities. Assists in transporting construction material to work sites. Prepares road maintenance and road construction sites for site work. Performs related duties.  KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION  Knowledge of road construction and maintenance methods and practices. Knowledge of related federal, state, and local laws. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety requirements. Knowledge of County geography. Skill in operating specialized light and heavy equipment. Skill in the operation of vehicles and related repair and maintenance equipment. Skill in accurately maneuvering heavy equipment. Skill in interpersonal relations. SUPERVISORY CONTROLS The Public Works Director assigns work in terms of somewhat general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with instructions and established procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results. The following duties are normal for this position; other duties may be required and assigned: Reviews reports submitted by law enforcement to determine whether further investigation is needed; approves or returns cases for more work; researches alternative crimes; reads and researches case law. Drafts accusations and indictments; evaluates and researches potential defenses; negotiates pleas to dispose of cases; dismisses cases not prosecutable. Develops trial strategy for each case, presents cases to grand jury; questions witnesses; answers juror’s questions; determines appropriate sentence recommendations; calls arraignment calendars; attends pre-trial conferences with judge and defense attorneys. This position will work closely with victims and/or witnesses of a crime to guide them through the Victim/Witness Advocacy Program. MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: (All incumbents may not perform all functions) Serve as a liaison between prosecutors, investigators, court personnel, and various community agencies and the throughout the criminal justice process. Notify victims of all hearings, including but not limited to: Committal/Preliminary Hearings, Bond Hearings, Arraignment, Motions, Trial or Plea. Assist victims and/or family members in completing Victim Impact Statements when applicable. Refer victims to appropriate resources such as: domestic violence shelters, counseling centers, rape crisis centers, etc. Assist victims in completing Victims’ Compensation applications.
